Austin Grimes head shot

Austin Grimes

Austin Grimes completed his eighth season on the Greyhound sideline in 2024 and was elevated to Associate Head Coach over the summer.

Grimes has helped coach the Greyhound to five straight NCAA tournament berths and three GLVC titles, including the program's trip to the national semifinal in 2019.

He came to the Circle City from Oberlin College, where he spent the 2016 season as the school's defensive coordinator. During his year with Oberlin, the Yeoman held opponents to a .279 shot percentage and caused 120 turnovers, fourth-best in the conference.

Prior to his stint in Ohio, Grimes helped his alma mater, Wheeling Jesuit, as an assistant coach for three years while completing his Master of Business Administration.

The Cardinals had a top-20 ranked defense each of his three seasons on the sidelines, including the 2014 campaign when Wheeling Jesuit ranked 10th in defense, second in man-down defense, and first in clearing percentage among all Division II programs. Grimes also mentored six All-Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) honorees and an honorable mention All-American.

As a student-athlete, Grimes was voted Team Captain by his coaches and teammates for his senior season (2012), and ended up earning All-ECAC honors.

A native of Hartland, Wisconsin, Grimes has also served as the head coach for the U-13 Golden Eagle Elite Lacrosse Team and volunteered with the Special Olympics and Habitat for Humanity.
