On tap:  UIndy steps outside of conference play for the final time, playing its next five games against non-GLVC opponents.  The stretch begins with a pair of games at the Alderson-Broaddus tourney this weekend, where the Hounds will matchup with West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foes Salem International and the host Battlers.  It will be the first time UIndy has played either school to date.

About Salem International:
The Spartans are 0-5 on the season and have been outscored by opponents 437-283.  The average score has been 87-57 with their closest loss coming in their home opener Nov. 19, a 19-point loss to Ohio Valley.  Chris Carey leads the squad with a 14.0 points per game average while Travis Sinclair is their top rebounder at 6.5 rpg.

About Alderson-Broaddus:  The Battlers are 4-1 in the early campaign, with thier lone loss coming by one point in an overtime loss to the GLVC's Saint Joseph's back on Nov. 16.  A-B features two shooters averaging at least 19 points per game in Stan Hall (19.8 ppg) and Sam Liggins (19.4).  Either Hall (3) or Liggins (2) has led the team in scoring in each of their five games thus far.

UIndy Head Coach Stan Gouard Stan Gouard is in his first season as the head man at Indianapolis.  Gouard was introduced as the new head of the Greyhound program on Apr. 3, 2008.  He previously spent three years as an assistant coach at Indiana State following his three-year stint as an assistant at UIndy.  While at Indianapolis, Gouard was part of the staff that helped the Hounds to a 47-31 record, advancing to the NCAA tournament all three seasons.

Rejection Letter:
Braxton Mills leads the Greyhounds with five blocked shots this season, giving him 84 for his career.  That mark is just four shy of second place in the school's all-time record book.  Mills needs 32 blocks to overtake the top spot held by Doug Stahly, who swatted away 116 shots from 1989-93.

Battling the Best:  The UIndy schedule has been no picnic in the first month of the season.  The Greyhounds have played four games against teams currently in the Top 25 (NABC Division II Coaches Poll- Dec. 9):  #1 Findlay, #11 Grand Valley State, #16 Northern Kentucky and #21 Bellarmine.  The combined record of those four schools (as of Dec. 9) is 21-3.  Findlay (5-0) and Bellarmine (5-0) are among 13 undefeateds left in D-II.

Final Five:  The Greyhounds are embarking on a five-game stretch, playing outside of league action.  These five games will mark the final non-conference games of the season, concluding with a Dec. 30th meeting against Temple Baptist at home.  The new calendar year marks the re-opening of conference play as the Hounds play out their final 16 within the conference.
