ROLLA, Mo.- A late second-half run helped host Missouri S&T to a 72-62 win in Great Lakes Valley Conference play Saturday afternoon. The Miners were able to use a 9-0 run in the closing minutes and an overall 48-27 rebounding advantage to help post the victory.
S&T (7-8, 2-5 GLVC) got out to a 15-5 lead to start the game before the Hounds rattled-off 10 straight to knot the score at 15-apiece with 9:12 remaining in the half. The Miners answered with a dozen consecutive points to reclaim the double-digit advantage, holding the Hounds (6-11, 1-7) without a field goal for over four minutes.
Marquis Jones hit a three to put the home team on top, 29-17 with just under five minutes left in the period. From there, the Greyhounds scored 15 of the next 16 points to enter halftime with a 32-30 lead. The key to the run was
Larry Woods, who had nine of his 11 first-half points during the closing stretch.
The Hounds took care of the basketball in the opening half, registering just three turnovers in the first twenty minutes.
The second half was a dogfight with the teams matching each other bucket-for-bucket. Neither team could garner a lead of more than two possessions until the final minutes. After a Radcliff three put UIndy within two points at 56-54, the Miners scored the next nine points to take control of the game.
The Greyhound frontcourt was in foul trouble for a majority of the game.
Braxton Mills and
Donald Cloutier each fouled out and an already undersized UIndy squad was dominated on the glass.
Radcliff led the team with 17 points and added four rebounds and three assists. Woods chipped-in 14 points.
Sergey Struck and Cloutier each tallied five rebounds for Indianapolis.
UIndy will return home to host a pair of league games next week, welcoming Quincy Thursday night and Lewis Saturday. Tip time both nights is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
