INDIANAPOLIS- UIndy dropped an 86-60 decision at the hands of Lewis Saturday night at Nicoson Hall, running its record to 6-13 overall and 1-9 in the GLVC. Lewis improves to 11-7 on the year and 5-4 in conference play.
The Flyers led by as many as 16 points in the opening period, using a 12-2 run in the middle of the first period to amass the advantage .
UIndy would cut the lead to five just before the halftime break, on a pair of layups from
Tyke Cockerham and a three-point make from
Keith Radcliff.
A trey from Lewis' Mike Robinson with eight seconds left in the half sent the teams into the break with the Flyers ahead, 41-33.
The Greyhounds kept Lewis within around 10 points for about the first nine minutes of the second half. A
Braxton Mills dunk with about 13 minutes to play punctuated the effort.
Lewis put the game out of reach with a 13-0 run in the middle of the half, stretching its lead to 23 with just more than six minutes to play before a Mills free throw and a Cockerham layup ended the Greyhound scoring drought.
The five-minute stretch without a point was too much to overcome, however, as UIndy would not cut the Lewis lead to less than 20 for the rest of the contest.
The Flyers closed out the game with a dunk by Steve Crane with 1.8 seconds on the clock, taking the 86-60 win.
Lewis' Jason Genova and Marty Strus led all scorers with 21 points apiece for the Flyers, and Genova also had a game-high nine rebounds. Radcliff and Mills led the Greyhounds with 12 points apiece, and Mills added a team-high eight boards.
The Greyhounds take to the road for their next contest, a GLVC tilt at Wisconsin-Parkside Thursday night at 8:30 p.m. UIndy will then return home for a contest with Saint Joseph's Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
