ROMEOVILLE, Ill.- Both the University of Indianapolis swim teams picked up dual wins at Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe Lewis Saturday afternoon. The Greyhound men won by a 120-83 count and the women registered a 112-92 dual victory.
Erica Smith helped lead the women's squad with a pair of NCAA-qualifying times. Smith registered an NCAA B-cut in the 200 individual medley, touching the wall in winning time of 2:11.21. She later swam away from the field in the 100 butterfly, grabbing an A-cut in the process with her 56.99 time.
Other winners for UIndy included
Ozlem Taskin in the 1000 freestyle (11:11.89),
Vicki Galiamoutsa in the 100 freestyle (55.80) and both the 400 medley (4:07.28) and 400 freestyle relay (3:37.78) squads.
On the men's side, both relay squads also were victorious, getting the action off to a good start and closing the meet in style.
Manuel Stiem was part of five Greyhound individual wins, collecting victorys in the 200 freestyle (1:44.24).
Marios Panagi took the 50 freestyle (22.28),
Austin Biefnes posted a win in the 200 individual medley (1:59.93),
Seth Smoker won the 100 butterfly (53.25) and
Tyler Kennedy touched first in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.13).
The competition was the final tuneup prior to the GLIAC Championships, set for Feb. 11-14 in Jenison, Mich. and Jenison High School. The meet is hosted by Grand Valley State University.
