HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.- Seventh-ranked Northern Kentucky extended its winning streak to nine straight with an 80-67 Great Lakes Valley Conference win over the visiting Greyhounds Saturday night at the Bank of Kentucky Center.
Tristan Rogers came off the bench to lead UIndy, scoring 24 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.
Rogers had been close to registering double-doubles in the past two games, missing by one rebound at Wisconsin-Parkside and falling one point shy vs. Saint Joseph's last week. But, the senior made sure to post his second career double-double by getting out to a quick start with 13 points and six rebounds by halftime. Rogers led the solid bench effort that scored 21 of UIndy's 33 first-half points as the host Norse took a slim 39-33 advantage into the locker room.
In the second half, the Hounds (8-14, 3-10 GLVC) whittled away at the lead and drew within one on Rogers' triple for a 46-45 score. Another Rogers long ball a minute later kept the game close at 50-48. The Norse (18-4, 11-2) would hold the Hounds off the scoreboard for the next two-and-half minutes to rebuild an eight-point margin. Rogers stopped the dryspell with a layup but the Greyhounds could get no closer and the home team remained perfect in its new home (11-0).
The UIndy bench sparkled in the loss, highlighted by the tandem of Rogers and
Larry Woods, who added 19 points and eight rebounds, as the Hounds' reserves outscored the Norse bench 43-2. The NKU starting lineup did its damage with three players in double figures led by DeAaron Williams' game-high 27 points. Vincent Humphrey chipped-in 18 points while A'Daeron Duncan added 17 for the home team. UIndy's
Keith Radcliff made 5-of-6 shots from the floor for 16 points on the night before fouling-out late in the game.
UIndy will travel to Lewis for its lone contest next week, an 8:45 p.m. Eastern time tip on Thursday, Feb. 12.
