WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. --
Senior forward Nate Blank led all players with 18 points and four three-pointers, while senior guard Darius Adams added 16 points for the University of Indianapolis in an exhibition loss at No. 8 Purdue, 82-59, on Tuesday night.

Junior guard Adrian Moss added nine points, three rebounds and three assists for the Greyhounds, which were held to 31.7 percent (19-60) shooting by the Boilermakers. The Hounds hit 15-of-20 free throws (.750) and forced 20 Purdue turnovers, including 11 steals, two each by Blank, freshman forward Cody Vest and sophomore guard Jarrett Hamilton.

The taller Boilermakers used that advantage to out-rebound UIndy, 50-28, including 19 offensive rebounds that led to 23 second-chance points.

The Greyhounds fell behind early, 9-2, before head coach Stan Gouard called timeout. The stoppage calmed UIndy as they scored the next five points, 9-7, on a step back baseline jumper by Adams and three-pointer by Blank on the left wing off the penetration and dish of Moss.

The Boilermakers came back to score four in a row, 13-7, but junior center Wilbur O'Neal powered in a hook deep in the paint and Adams added a floater on the fast break to make it a two-point game, 13-11, with 14:32 remaining in the opening half.

Purdue responded with a 19-9 run over the next 5:54 to build its lead to 12, 32-20, but UIndy came right back to cut the lead to five, 32-27, with a 7-0 run on a jumper and fast break lay-up by Adams around a three-pointer from senior forward DeWann Squires. After a score by Purdue, Moss quickly nailed a three-pointer to make it a four-point game, 34-30, with 6:22 left in the half.

The Hounds were still within five, 39-34, after Blank nailed his third triple of the half, but Purdue closed the half with five in a row to lead by 10, 44-34, at halftime.

UIndy shot 34.4 percent in the half (11-32), but did hit five triples and made 7-of-8 free throws. Purdue used its size advantage to out-rebound UIndy, 25-13, including nine offensive rebounds that led to 12 second-chance points. The Greyhounds forced 13 turnovers to out-score Purdue, 11-8, in points off turnovers.

Despite a fourth triple from Blank, Purdue pushed its lead to 18, 55-37, less than three minutes into the second half to build enough of a cushion to hold off the Greyhounds.

UIndy is back in action with a pair of exhibitions on Saturday at Southern Illinois at 3:05 p.m. and again on Monday night at Tennessee at 7:30 p.m. The Hounds will open the 2010-11 season with a four-game homestand beginning with Indiana-Northwest on Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m.

Post-Game Q&A - Coach Gouard

How did you think the team played tonight?

"I thought we competed really hard. We had a lot of jitters going into the game. I thought we fought hard, but late in the game we quit going with some of the things that we were doing well in the first half. In the first half, we did a decent job of executing and getting guys the shots we wanted. In the second half, we went away from the game plan."

What did you learn about your team tonight?

"We've got a lot of work to do. I know it. They know it. There are a lot of little things that we've been working on since day one that kind of went out the door. With us being so young, we have a lot of guys, especially our freshmen, that have not done scouting reports with this much detail. We've got to really school those guys on getting more focused on scouting reports and applying that when the game starts. In a game like tonight, we can't expect to shoot 24 three-pointers and be in the ball game. It's good when they are falling down, but we have to be smart as a team when they aren't falling to get stuff inside. I saw tonight  that we've got a big guy who can score in the post in Will O'Neal. We've got to get more touches for him. There are a lot of good things that came out of this game, but plenty to work on."

What did you think of Nate Blank and Darius Adams?

"They stepped up. It's an exciting time for both of these guys because Darius knows Lewis Jackson from back home and Nate knows almost the entire Purdue team. I'm really happy with the way they competed. They didn't do everything right, but they worked hard and kept guys in the game. They had a great attitude throughout the game. Going forward, they still have to do a better job of leading our young guys and get them on the same page. I expect my seniors to keep working hard and lead by example."
