Box Score

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Darius Adams tallied 26 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals, while Adrian Moss added 20 points, nine assists, six rebounds and three steals to lead University of Indianapolis basketball to victory, 94-86, over host Lynn at the Courtyard by Marriott Holiday Classic at the de Hoernle Center.

The Greyhounds (7-2) finished as the only undefeated team in the event and increased its winning streak to four in a row and 6-of-7.

"We've played some quality basketball teams and this is great momentum going into conference," head coach Stan Gouard said on 88.7 FM WICR after the victory. "I wanted to come down here and play well, but I didn't know we would play this well. Guys are feeling good going back home. We've got seven days off and then we'll get back in the gym to prepare for conference play."

Cory Zackery added 13 points and five rebounds and Wilbur O'Neal finished with 11 points as UIndy shot 50.8 percent (31-61) against the Fighting Knights (2-8). The Hounds knocked down 11 three-pointers and converted on 21-of-29 free throws (.724).

"Everybody on this team wants to take the big shots and I have tremendous confidence in everyone on this basketball team," Gouard said. "We made some big plays down the stretch."

UIndy forced Lynn into 17 turnovers for a 20-10 lead in points off turnovers, while also leading, 13-3, in second-chance points behind 12 offensive rebounds and an overall 39-33 rebounding edge.

The Fighting Knights were led by Chris Hall with 20 points and Cameron McCallum added 18 points and 12 rebounds. Lynn made 12 triples and converted on 48.1 percent from the field (26-54).

Four points by O'Neal in the first 70 seconds of the second half pushed the UIndy lead to 14, 58-44, but Lynn scored the next six points. Zackery tipped in a missed three-pointer and Adams drained a trifecta to put the UIndy lead back at 13, 63-50, with 15:59 to go in the contest.

The Knights kept plugging away and closed within six, 70-64, with 11:15 on the clock, but UIndy scored the next eight to keep the lead at 14, 78-64, after a tip-in by O'Neal with 7:41 remaining in the classic.

Lynn kept the home crowd interested by rallying with a 16-6 run to pull within four, 84-80, with 2:40 to play. UIndy immediately responded with an old-fashioned three-point play by Moss and made 7-of-8 free throws in the final 58 seconds to hold off the Knights.

"I credit my guys for hanging in there when things got tough," Gouard said. "Lynn is the best 2-7 team we're ever going to see. They are strong and physical, shoot the ball real well, defend and execute. It's a great win for us to come down here and get two wins in two days. It's a momentum-builder going into conference play."

Lynn held the early lead, 5-3, when the Greyhounds went to the races with an 11-0 run over 1:46 to take a nine-point lead, 14-5, after three-pointers by Zackery, Moss and DeWann Squires with 16:16 left in the opening half.

The Knights pulled within two, 27-25, with 8:31 still to play, but UIndy countered with three-pointers on three straight possessions by Paul Corsaro, Zackery and Moss as part of a 12-1 run to go up by 13, 39-26, with 6:01 remaining.

Lynn came back to cut the margin to five, 45-40, but UIndy closed the first half on a 9-2 run in the last 2:04 to lead by a dozen, 54-42, at halftime after Moss closed the half with a steal and lay-up for the second day in a row.

The Greyhounds are off until 2011 when Great Lakes Valley Conference play resumes with a road trip to Illinois. UIndy begins the new year at Illinois-Springfield on Jan. 2 at 4 p.m. and at Quincy on Jan. 4 at 8:30 p.m.
