Box Score

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. -- Wilbur O'Neal scored a career-high 17 points and Darius Adams added 15 points and four steals for UIndy men's basketball in a loss, 87-69, at No. 20 Northern Kentucky on Saturday night at The Bank of Kentucky Center.

O'Neal connected on 7-of-10 field goals, all in the second half, for the Greyhounds (3-2, 0-1 GLVC) at the Norse (5-1, 1-1 GLVC), while Adams converted 9-of-10 free throws.

Adrian Moss added nine points, four assists and three rebounds, while Cory Zackery contributed eight points and four assists.

The Greyhounds hit at a 39.3 percent (22-56) clip and allowed NKU to shoot 55.8 percent (24-43), led by Chris Knight with 27 points and Bobby Shannon with 17.

The Norse out-rebounded UIndy, 37-22, but the Greyhounds countered by forcing 21 turnovers that resulted in 25 points off turnovers.

The teams traded three-pointers to start the game, but then NKU scored five in a row, 8-3. The Greyhounds countered with a three-pointer by DeWann Squires and jumper by Adams to knot the score, 8-8. Those ended up being the only tie scores of the game.

The Norse couldn't pull away from the Hounds as they were within four, 28-24, with 4:22 to go in the half after a lay-up by Paul Corsaro and two Adams freebies. Northern Kentucky responded with a 14-3 run to end the half and lead by 15, 42-27, at halftime.

NKU stretched the lead to 19, 50-31, less than four minutes into the second half and the Greyhounds could pull no closer than 12, 61-49, with 8:51 to play.

Freshman center Joe Daniels made his Greyhound debut against Northern Kentucky after receiving clearance from the NCAA earlier in the week. The tallest (6-9) player on the Greyhound roster contributed four points and team-high five rebounds.

Indianapolis heads to Bristol, Tenn., on Monday night at 7 p.m. to play King in a NCAA Division II non-conference match-up. This game replaces an originally scheduled home game against Millikin on Dec. 8. That game has been cancelled.

Q&A with Head Coach Stan Gouard

What are the bright spots from this game?

"There are none. The bright spot is the game is over. I don't think anyone on this basketball team understood how good NKU was. Talent-wise, we are right there with them, but not in toughness. The problem is that our leaders aren't being leaders right now."

What did you think of the play of Wilbur O'Neal?

"It's a great thing to have a guy inside to score the basketball. We challenged him at halftime because he had no points and no rebounds. It was nice he scored 17 in the second half, but he has to be ready to go when the game starts. We can't go on the road and get beat on the boards and allow the other team to shoot over 55 percent."
