Late rally falls short as No. 2 Screaming Eagles best Greyhounds 91-74

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The UIndy men's basketball team held their own in the second half against the nation's second-ranked team in Southern Indiana, but could not overcome the hot shooting Screaming Eagles, falling 91-74 on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams got off to hot starts as the visiting Greyhounds took an early 11-9 lead, but it was short lived as the Screaming Eagles went on a quick 8-2 run and led 17-11 after three-pointer from Brandon Carr forced a UIndy timeout with 12:13 remaining in the first half.

Southern Indiana extended their lead to 37-25 at the 4:37 mark in the opening period after a pair of steals and transition buckets, highlighted by a two-handed slam from Tyrone Bradshaw.

The Greyhounds continued to face full-court pressure from the Eagles for the opening 20 minutes and found themselves trailing 56-34 at the break despite shooting 56 percent from the floor.

A three-point basket from Paul Corsaro narrowed the USI advantage to 69-54 with just over 11 minutes remaining in the ballgame as the Greyhounds began to claw themselves back into the contest with full-court pressure of their own.

Indianapolis would cut the lead to 12 on numerous occasions in the second half, but could get no closer as the second-ranked Screaming Eagles prevailed with a 91-74 victory at The PAC.

The 91 points by USI was the most given up by the Greyhounds this season, bettering the 88 that Kentucky Wesleyan posted back on January 23 in a meeting at Nicoson Hall.

Darius Adams led all scorers with a game-high 25 points hitting 8 of his 18 shot attempts, including a 8-of-10 effort at the charity stripe.  Ryan Sims added 13 for the Hounds, while Dijon Knight rounded out the double-digit scorers for UIndy with 11.

Bradshaw led the Screaming Eagles with 22 points and 12 boards, finishing the contest 9-of-12 from the floor and 3-for-4 at the foul line.

The defeat drops the Greyhounds to 12-13 on the season and 6-10 in Great Lakes Valley Conference contests, while USI remained perfect, improving their unblemished mark to 23-0 and 14-0 in GLVC play.  UIndy returns to Nicoson Hall on Monday, February 15 as they host Bellarmine University in their final home game of the regular season.
