CANTON, Ohio- Eight UIndy All-America performances, six from the Greyhound women, highlighted a solid four days of competition at the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships in Canton, Ohio completed Saturday night. The Indianapolis women finished ninth to extend a streak of 11 straight seasons placing in the top 20 nationally. The Greyhound men took 21st.
SATURDAY
The women's 400 free relay team became the third UIndy relay to finish in the top eight to grab All-America honors. The squad of
Maura Donahue,
Erica Smith,
Vicki Galiamoutsa and
Meghan Donahue posted a preliminary time of 3:28.33 and bested that by more than two full seconds in the finals to take third place (3:25.59).
Maura Donahue finished 10th in the 100 freestyle while her sister, Meghan, did the same in the 200 backstroke.
FRIDAY
The third day of competition produced three more All-America outcomes.
Maura Donahue got the finals session started with a sixth-place finish in the 500 freestyle to grab her third All-America honor of the meet, touching in 5:00.73. She'd later grab her fourth by swimming the first leg of the women's 800 freestyle relay, placing seventh and generating 24 team points to strengthen UIndy's position in the standings.
Guy Kogel took third place in the 200 butterfly, finishing in 1:48.93.
THURSDAY
Day two produced three All-America honors for UIndy as
Erica Smith took runner-up accolades in the 100 butterfly, touching in 55:26. Kogel, in the men's 100 fly race, clocked a 49.19 time in the finals, good for fifth place. In the next race,
Maura Donahue made it three straight trips to the All-America platform as she took fifth in the 200 freestyle (1:51.35), shaving over a full second off her preliminary time. To finish up the honors, UIndy's women's 400 medley relay squad took third, making All-Americans out of
Jaclyn Luscomb,
Meghan Donahue,
Maura Donahue and
Erica Smith.
WEDNESDAY
UIndy's foursome of Meghan and
Maura Donahue, Luscomb and Smith teamed to win the "B" race of the 200 medley relay finals. Their 1:44.92 time helped earn the Greyhounds 18 team points as Indianapolis sat in a tie for 12th place through day one.
