ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The University of Indianapolis men's and women's swimming teams each emerged victorious in a dual meet at Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Lewis on Saturday afternoon. The No. 13 Greyhound women won 124-77, while the 16th-ranked men defeated the No. 20 Flyers, 132-70.
The Greyhound women started fast as
Meghan Donahue,
Jaclyn Luscomb,
Ashlee Fishburn and
Julia Madeira won in 1:50.04 in the 200 medley relay, the first event of the day. UIndy's other relay of
Stephanie Steider,
Vicki Galiamoutsa,
Alex Norris and
Regina Perez finished second in 1:55.90.
Maura Donahue, Norris, Galiamoutsa and Perez then came back in the last event of the day to win the 200 free relay in 1:41.73.
Maura Donahue also earned wins in the 1,000 free in 10:39.77 (B cut) and 100 free in 53.96. Other winners on the women's side were
Julia Madeira in the 200 free in 1:57.95,
Kristin Howdyshell in the 100 fly in 1:01.36 and
Meghan Donahue in the 100 back in 1:01.46.
The men also opened and closed the day with relay victories. In the 200 medley,
Nir Posner, Musaffer Demitras,
Seth Smoker and
Aviv Sela won in 1:36.98, while
Bruno Barbosa,
Justin Klopp,
Nikolas Aresti and
Guy Kogel won the 200 free relay in 1:26.54.
Individually, Kogel won the 200 free in 1:44.22 and the 100 fly in 51.56. The Hounds actually finished 1-2-3 in the 100 fly with Smoker and Klopp finishing behind Kogel. Klopp won the 50 free in 21.70, just edging out Barbosa in 21.93.
Austin Biefnes took the 200 IM 2:00.84, while Barbosa and Posner went 1-2 in the 100 back in 54.85 and 56.66. Demitras earned another win in the 100 breast in 58.37 (B cut), ahead of Sela in second in 1:02.55.
This was the final tune-up for the Greyhounds as they are off until Feb. 9-12 when they head to Jenison, Mich., for the GLIAC Swimming and Diving Championships.
