INDIANAPOLIS --
Senior Darius Adams led all players with 26 points and seven rebounds to lead University of Indianapolis men's basketball to a Great Lakes Valley Conference win, 82-62, over Maryville at Nicoson Hall on Saturday afternoon.

The Greyhounds (11-2, 4-1 GLVC) increased their winning streak to eight wins in a row by winning four games in seven days to begin 2011.

"Many teams can't get four wins in a short stretch like this," head coach Stan Gouard said. "We're fortunate because we've got some guys on this team who are mentally good at keeping focus, particularly Adrian Moss and Nate Blank. The mental aspect is going to carry us all season."

Junior Adrian Moss added 14 points and four assists, while junior Wilbur O'Neal and senior Nate Blank each scored 11 points against the Saints (3-9, 0-5 GLVC), which is short for Saint Bernards.

The Hounds' forced 20 turnovers, while only coughing it up eight times of their own to outscoure Maryville 24-8 in points off turnovers. The Hounds shot 49 percent (25-51) for the game, including nine three-pointers, and hit 23-of-32 free throws (.719).

"I'm happy with the win, but we still have to get better," Gouard said. "I thought our bench came in a did a good job on defense, but the scoring production is still not there. I'm still looking for someone to give us a spark off the bench and score some baskets."

Maryville was led by Ryan Shotkoski with 15 points on 5-of-5 shooting, including three triples, and 2-of-2 free throws.

The Saints took the early lead in the dog fight, 5-2, when UIndy called timeout 2:06 into the game. The Greyhounds responded to the stoppage with an 8-0 run capped by a steal and jumper from Moss and offensive putback by O'Neal, 10-5, over the next 70 seconds.

The Greyhounds continued to put on the pressure as the run continued to put the Greyhounds up 17, 28-11, after back-to-back three-pointers by Moss and Blank and a lay-up by Adams with 10:18 to play. After the initial timeout by Gouard, UIndy outscored Maryville 26-6 over the ensuing 7:27.

The Saints cut their deficit to 11, 32-21, but the Greyhounds countered with three-pointers by Moss and Adams before Blank converted all three free throws after being fouled behind the arc hit with six seconds before halftime to put UIndy up 18, 41-23.

"It's obvious Nate isn't healthy after the knee surgery, but he still wants to play 40 minutes," Gouard said. "I've got to gradually work him back in, but he made some big buckets for us today did a good job of talking on the defensive end."

UIndy shot 51.9 percent (14-27) in the first half, while holding the Saints to 39 percent (9-23). Adams nearly outscored Maryville by himself with 20 points in the first half.

The second half started with Maryville cutting its deficit to 14, 45-31, but UIndy countered with an 8-0 run. The Greyhounds scored on a hook by freshman Cody Sarrazin, three-point play by Blank, a free throw by freshman Leland Brown and fast break lay-up by junior cory Zackery after a steal by freshman Jarrett Hamilton to go up 21, 53-31, with 12:08 remaining in the game.

The Saints made one last run to close within 10, 68-58, with 3:52 remaining in the game. The Hounds stiffened and went on a 14-1 run to finish off Maryville.

The Greyhounds get a short break before wrapping their three-game homestand next Thursday at 7:45 p.m. against Missouri S&T.
