Women's tennis shuts out Cedarville, 9-0

The University of Indianapolis women's tennis team returned to the court for the first time since Feb. 5 and shut down Cedarville, 9-0, at the UIndy Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Greyhounds (3-1) started strong in doubles with Alena Perez-Majul and Maggie Ashby at No. 1 and Rachel Barger and Kasey Land at No. 2 both winning 8-2 against the Yellow Jackets (2-4). Alex Covington and Claire Liles rounded out the doubles sweep with an 8-1 win at No. 3.

UIndy's success continued in singles with every Greyhound winning in straight sets. Perez-Majul earned a 6-4, 6-1 triumph at the top spot, followed by Ashby with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2. Meghan Teunis took the third spot with a 6-3, 6-1 win and Liles shut out her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4. Barger didn't drop a game in the first set to win 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 and Taylor Eckert didn't drop a game in her second set to emerge with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at the six spot.

The Greyhounds are back in action next Saturday at the UIndy Tennis Center against Tiffin from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference at 1 p.m.
