INDIANAPOLIS -- Miles Mitchell hit a three-pointer in the left corner with four seconds left for UIndy men's basketball to defeat Missouri-St. Louis, 63-62, at Nicoson Hall on Saturday afternoon. The Greyhounds' (11-3, 4-2 GLVC) snapped the Tritons' (11-4, 6-1 GLVC) winning streak coming into Saturday's Great Lakes Valley Conference contest.

"I was in the corner the whole possession. We drew up a play on the opposite side as an isolation for (Adrian) Moss and Cody (Vest) was able to get an open look," Mitchell said. "He missed, but fortunately Leland (Brown) was there to get the board and I was just behind him. I stepped back a little bit and he threw the ball to me and it was just a good, open look. My only thought was shoot it. Time was running out and all I saw was the rim."

UMSL trailed by 13, 56-43, with 7:24 remaining in the game after UIndy scored back-to-back fast break buckets by Adrian Moss and Reece Cheatham. The Tritons then stormed back with a 19-4 run over the next 6:34 to take the lead, 62-60, with 25 seconds to go on a pair of free throws by Troy Long. That was the first lead for the Tritons since 11-8 early in the first half.

"It was a wild game. It was real rocky. We were up 13 at halftime, so to be in the situation where we have to hit a game winner was definitely not what we expected," Mitchell said. "They did a good job in the second half. They played good defense. They crashed the boards and attacked us on offense. Hat's off to those guys for a good second half, fortunately we got a good look to win."

Reece Cheatham and Jarrett Hamilton led UIndy with 16 points each, while Moss tallied 12 points, five rebounds and five assists. Mitchell finished with seven points on 2-of-6 shooting.

UIndy shot 42.9 percent (24-56), making 8-of-22 (.364) three-pointers, and 7-of-13 free throws, including 0-of-2 in the second half. The Tritons shot 38.9 percent (21-54), but 48 percent in the second half. They made 6-of-19 three-pointers (.316) and 14-of-20 free throws, including 10-of-10 in the second half.

Each team had 14 turnovers and UMSL out-rebounded UIndy, 36-34, but the Greyhounds led 13-10 in second-chance points.

Long scored 19 points and McCoy added 18 points and seven rebounds for the Tritons, while Charlie Woods had 11 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two blocks.

UIndy trailed by three, 11-8, when it scored 10 in a row to take the lead, 18-11, with Hamilton scoring the first five points of the run. The Greyhounds stretched the lead to 17, 35-18, with 4:07 to go in the half after scoring eight in a row on a lay-up by Brown and consecutive three-pointers by Cheatham and Hamilton. UIndy maintained a double-digit lead, 37-24, at halftime after holding UMSL to 29.6 percent shooting and a 13-3 edge in points off turnovers.

The Tritons scored the first four points of the second half and eventually closed within seven, 50-43, with 10:49 to go. Both teams were scoreless for the next 1:43 until Hamilton hit a long two. Another minute elapsed before Joe Daniels rebounded a miss and threw the ball ahead for Moss all alone and then Cheatham stole a cross court pass and took it the distance to put UIndy back up 13, 56-43, before Missouri-St. Louis' comeback to take the lead with 25 seconds left.

The Greyhounds wrap up this three-game homestand on Monday at 7:45 p.m. against in-state rival Saint Joseph's (6-8, 1-5 GLVC). Both games of the doubleheader that begins at 5:30 p.m. will be broadcast live by Hometown Sports Indiana.
