Swimming and diving splits in dual meet against No. 4 Grand Valley State

INDIANAPOLIS --
The 10th-ranked UIndy men's swimming and diving team defeated No. 4 Grand Valley State, 122-119, at Ruth Lilly Center Pool on Saturday afternoon, while the No. 14 Greyhounds' women fell to the No. 4 Lakers, 135-99.

The two teams combined for nine NCAA "B" qualifying times and won 13 events against their Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rivals.

The men were led by veterans Bruno Barbosa, Muzaffer Demirtas and Guy Kogel as each won an individual event and combined with Justin Rossillo to win the 400 medley relay in a "B" of 3:23.41. Barbosa won the 100 free in a "B" of 46.39, Demirtas won the 200 breast in a "B" of 2:07.04 and Kogel the 200 fly in a "B" of 1:51.69. Daniel Chan also earned a "B" of 1:52.03 finishing third in the 200 fly.

Barbosa, Rossillo, Justin Klopp and Nikolas Aresti won the 400 free relay in a "B" of 3:05.93, while Rossillo earned another "B" of 1:53.02 finishing second in the 200 back. Aresti won the 50 free in 21.74, while Adil Assouab earned a "B" of 9:52.89 finishing third in the 1,000 free. Freshman Tyler Offutt won both the one-meter and three-meter diving events for the Greyhounds.

Julia Madeira won the 50 free in a "B" of 24.41 and teamed with Hayley Good, Vicki Galiamoutsa and Meghan Donahue to win the 400 free relay in 3:33.47. Good also won the 200 free in 1:56.94 and Donahue took the 200 back in 2:10.46. UIndy's other winner was Amber Cooper in the 200 IM in 2:13.84.

The Greyhounds return to Ruth Lilly Center Pool next Saturday for Senior Day at 1 p.m. against Lewis.
