INDIANAPOLIS – UIndy swimming and diving opened the 2012-13 campaign with a pair of victories against Asbury (Ky.). The men won, 124-77, against the Eagles, while the women took the win, 134-92.
Michelle Mikeaelsson led the women by winning the 200 individual medley (2:12.34) and 100 breast (1:07.63), while also being a part of the winning 200 medley relay with
Sarah Griffin,
Samantha Asencio and
Risa Ricard.
Asencio added a victory in the 100 fly (59.45), while
Julia Madeira won the 50 free (24.15) and 100 free (53.06).
Maura Donahue won the 200 free in 1:55.33 and
Katy Sonksen won the 1,000 free in 10:52.13, while
Courtney Wilder won on both diving boards.
Daniel Chan won three events to pace the men as he took the 200 IM (1:56.12) and 100 fly (51.37) and teamed with
Justin Rossillo,
Muzaffer Demirtas and
Nikolas Aresti to win the 200 medley relay.
Rossillo also won the 100 back in 51.51, while UIndy was strong in the individual freestyle events.
Aaron Stevenson won the 50 free (21.51),
Bruno Barbosa took the 200 free (1:42.26),
Dawid Rybinski won the 500 free (4:39.96) and
Adil Assouab took the 1,000 free in 9:59.20.
Next Saturday, the teams head to Purdue for the annual Indiana Intercollegiates at noon.
