SERIES HISTORY
The Greyhounds are undefeated (4-0) against the Marauders with the last meeting at Nicoson Hall on Dec. 4, 1996 (86-68). The series dates to the 1950s when UIndy won the inaugural meeting in overtime, 92-90, during the 1958-59 season.
ABOUT CENTRAL STATE
The Marauders, from Wilberforce, Ohio, have been Division II independents for years, but are now affiliated with the new Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC).
CSU will be playing its first road game after opening the season with a win over West Virginia Tech (86-49), but has dropped back-to-back games to GLIAC teams Saginaw Valley State (70-62) and Ohio Dominican (72-71, OT).
The Marauders are led by 6-4 senior UIC transfer DeMarkus Isom-Jones with 19.3 ppg and 5.0 rpg, while 5-8 senior guard Phillip Gates adds 13 ppg and 4.7 apg.
LAST TIME OUT
UIndy jumped out to a 22-point lead, 40-18, and were able to hold off Northwood, 79-62.
Reece Cheatham and
Tyrae Robinson combined for 50 points to lead the Greyhounds.
NATIONALLY RANKED
The Greyhounds have been tabbed as No. 20 in the Division II Bulletin Preseason Poll. In the NABC Coaches Poll, UIndy is 27th nationally as the second team also receiving votes. GLVC division rivals Bellarmine, Southern Indiana and Kentucky Wesleyan are all in the top 25.
The Greyhounds were ranked four weeks in a row (2/7-2/28) and five weeks total last season, before falling into the also receiving votes category in the NABC D-II Top 25. UIndy has been in the Top 25 for 23 weeks in school history, six times during
Stan Gouard's tenure.
SIZE ADVANTAGE
UIndy has taken advantage of its size in the first three games with a +11.3 rebound advantage. UIndy has scored 39 ppg in the paint and 20 second-chance ppg, while limiting opponents to 24 and 9.0 ppg, respectively.
James Hollowell leads the team with 7.5 rpg, while
Leland Brown and
Brennan McElroy add 5.0 rpg.
REECE'S PIECES
Reece Cheatham has made the most of his minutes this season, leading the team with 20.5 ppg, while shooting 58.3 percent (7-12) behind the three-point line and 6-of-6 at the free throw line.
WHAT CAN BROWN DO FOR YOU
Leland Brown continues to improve as he begins his junior season. He currently averages career highs of 14.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 3.0 apg and 2.3 spg, while shooting 58.6 percent (17-29) from the field.
