SOMERS, Wis. -- Adrian Moss tallied the first triple-double in school history to lead No. 25 UIndy men's basketball past host Wisconsin-Parkside, 84-57, on Saturday afternoon at DeSimone Gymnasium.
Moss finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for the Greyhounds (18-7, 11-6 GLVC) against the Rangers (8-17, 1-16 GLVC), while
Wilbur O'Neal led all players with 20 points and added seven rebounds.
"It feels good, that I'm 5-9 and can grab 10 rebounds," Moss said about his triple-double. "On the assist side, you can't do that individually. That's a team effort and I've got to give credit to my teammates.
"I think a few weeks ago, I lost trust in my teammates a little bit and I broke down film with Coach Tiers and noticed I was forcing some shots. I've been making a conscious effort to keep trusting my teammates and it's been paying off these last few games."
Reece Cheatham hit a three-pointer down the stretch for Moss' 10th assist to finish with 12 points, five rebounds and three assists, while
Miles Mitchell and
Jarrett Hamilton each scored 11 points.
The Greyhounds shot 53 percent for the game (34-64), including 10-of-22 three-pointers and held the Rangers to 32 percent shooting (18-56) and just 1-of-20 three-pointers (including missing their first 11).
"Our scouting reports are so detailed, we know everything the other team does and we've been paying more attention to their scouting reports," Moss said. "We can play good defense and the coaches do a great job of getting us prepared for what the other team does."
UIndy also dominated the glass with a 45-28 rebound margin that led to 19 second-chance points.
Trailing by 11 at the break, the Rangers scored on six of their first seven second half possessions, but could only cut three points off their deficit as UIndy scored on 5-of-7.
The Hounds then started to get stops as they scored seven in a row on a
Reece Cheatham three-pointer, Mitchell baseline jumper and Cheatham driving coast-to-coast for a finger roll at the rim to put UIndy up 15, 52-37, with 12:30 to play. The Rangers were never closer than 11 the rest of the way as UIndy used another 11-0 run to lead by 24, 71-47, with 6:22 to play after
Cody Vest snagged an offensive rebound and fed
Joe Daniels for a wide-open lay-up.
The Greyhounds took a quick seven-point lead, 12-5, less than five minutes into the game after Moss found O'Neal and
Leland Brown fot back-to-back lay-ups. The host Rangers came back to even the score at 21, but then UIndy countered again. The Greyhounds scored seven in a row to ignite a 15-4 run over the final 5:52 to end the half up 11, 36-25. Hamilton stole the ball on Parkside's final possession to find a streaking
Reece Cheatham to give the Greyhounds' the 11-point halftime lead.
UIndy held the Rangers to 30 percent (8-27) shooting with no three-pointers in nine attempts, while converting 47 percent (15-32) overall, including five three-pointers. UWP hung in the game by making 9-of-10 free throws to just 1-of-3 for the Crimson and Grey.
The Rangers were led by Jeremy Saffold with 13 points, while Conrad Krutwig and Leneal Harris each scored 12.
UIndy concludes the regular season next Thursday at St. Joseph's.
