Box Score

KISSIMMEE, Fla. --
NCAA Division I Valparaiso emerged with the hard-fought victory over NCAA Division II UIndy men's tennis, 6-1, in an all-Indiana affair at Star Island Resort. The Greyhounds (9-4) finish their Spring Break trip 2-3, but two losses were to Division I programs and the other to the No. 19 team in the country.

Doubles against the Crusaders (6-4) was closely contested with matches at No. 1 and No. 2 both coming down to a single service break. Alex Poe and Matt Smith fell 8-6 at the top spot, while Preston Swain and Pete Wilson also suffered an 8-6 defeat. The match was played under Division I scoring rules, where doubles accounts for just one point, instead of a point for each match.

Swain accounted for UIndy's point by taking a 6-1, 6-2 decision against Carlton Lyons at No. 6 singles. Poe was close to adding another point as after falling in the first set to Michael Woodson at No. 5, he stormed back with a 6-0 win in the second set to force a superbreaker where Woodson escaped with the 10-8 win.

UIndy now returns to the Hoosier State where it will begin Great Lakes Valley Conference play at in-state rival St. Joseph's on Saturday, March 24 at 1 p.m. ET.
