INDIANAPOLIS -- University of Indianapolis senior
Adrian Moss was named NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Third Team All-American by
Basketball Times on Monday. Moss becomes the 10th Greyhound in school history to become an All-American and gives UIndy its first back-to-back All-Americans (
Darius Adams, 2011) since Perrell Lucas in 1996 and Tyrone Barksdale in 1997. Moss will play one final time on Friday at 7 p.m. at The Bank of Kentucky Center in the Reese's Division II College All-Star Game in Highland Heights, Ky.
Moss leads the Great Lakes Valley Conference in steals (2.03), is second in assists (5.31, 27th NCAA) and fourth in scoring (18.3) as the Greyhounds (20-9, 12-6 GLVC) finished as one of the top four teams in Division II's toughest conference and reached the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row. Moss, who led the GLVC as conference player of the week three times, propelled UIndy to five weeks in the NABC/Division II Top 25 during the 2011-12 campaign.
The point guard had 302 assists and 103 steals to rank ninth in the UIndy career top 10 in both categories. On average, Moss is second in career assists (5.3 apg) and fifth in steals (1.8 spg) after leading UIndy to its first 20-win season since 2003-04 and first NCAA Tournament victory since 1996.
He notched the first triple-double in UIndy history and the only one in the GLVC this season (6th in D-II at the time, still only 11 this season) with 18 points, career-high 10 rebounds and 10 assists at Wisconsin-Parkside (2/18). Overall, Moss had three double-doubles this season and 12 20-point games. He also led the team in +/- at +7.52 points/game when he was on the floor.
He made 14-of-14 free throws on the way to a career-high 32 points against Northern Michigan (11/26). That is the most attempts by a UIndy player to not miss a free throw in a game and the most made free throws since David Logan made 13 against Grand Valley State on Dec. 30, 2004.
The senior from Franklin Community (Ind.) High School led UIndy to two victories this season against the No. 1 team in the country (99-94 OT vs. Bellarmine on 12/1, 80-77 at Kentucky Wesleyan on 1/21). Overall, UIndy was 5-5 against its nationally-ranked peers this season.
Other UIndy men's basketball All-Americans include: Dwight Swails (1951), Bailey Robertson (1956), Clark Crafton (1961), Tom Moran (1964), Perrell Lucas (1996), Tyrone Barksdale (1997), Andy Foster (2000), David Logan (2005),
Darius Adams (2011).
