Wayne State prevails in pivotal regional match

Box Score

INDIANAPOLIS --
The University of Indianapolis men's tennis team couldn't hold off Wayne State, 8-1, in an important regional match on Friday afternoon at the UIndy Tennis Center.

The Greyhounds (10-5), ranked eighth in the first NCAA Midwest Region rankings and ninth in the ITA region rankings, were only able to take one match off the Warriors (10-6), who are eighth in the ITA rankings and not ranked by the NCAA.

Senior Christian Nikou and junior Matt Smith picked up UIndy's victory by upsetting the No. 9 doubles team in the region, 8-5, of Aman Gill and Melvin Joseph at first doubles.

From there it was all WSU, as after winning 2-of-3 doubles, the Warriors swept all six singles matches in straight sets.

UIndy returns to Great Lakes Valley Conference play on the road Sunday at No. 37 Lewis (10-2, 0-0 GLVC) at 2 p.m. ET. The Greyhounds defeated St. Joseph's, 8-1, in their GLVC opener last weekend.
