INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 7 UIndy men and No. 7 Greyhound women sent their seniors out in style by sweeping Lewis at the Ruth Lilly Center Pool on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day. The men won 122-78, while the women took a 119-81 decision.
The Greyhounds won 17 events against the Flyers. In the middle of the meet, six seniors were honored for their contributions to UIndy swimming and diving. On the men's side were
Nikolas Aresti,
Justin Klopp,
Zach Laffin and
Justin Lyle, while
Shiran Abrahamson and
Maura Donahue were representativies for the women.
The day started with
Sarah Griffin,
Michelle Mikaelsson,
Samantha Asencio and
Julia Madeira winning the 400 medley relay in 4:01.00, while the men's group of
Justin Rossillo,
Muzaffer Demirtas,
Daniel Chan and
Bruno Barbosa won in 3:25.26.
The Greyhounds swept the 1,000 free with
Katy Sonksen winning in a personal best of 10:47.10, while
Dawid Rybinski had the fastest time of the year to win for the men in 9:21.56. The discipline stayed the same, but the distance was shortened to 200 yards and UIndy swept again with
Hayley Good winning in 1:56.91 and Chan took the win in 1:43.22.
Klopp earned the first of his two individual wins in the 50 free in 21.27, while
Julia Madeira won for the women in 24.21. Donahue followed by taking the 200 individual medley in 2:07.68, while Barbosa won in 1:53.89.
The Greyhounds took a break for diving and
Tyler Offutt posted the highest score of his career on three-meter with 328.25 points. He also scored a season-high 311.30 points on the one-meter.
Courtney Wilder had the best scores for the women, including a personal best of 315.35 on the one-meter.
Klopp's second win came in the 100 butterfly in 51.22, while
Samantha Asencio took the women's event in 59.88. As things changed to the backstroke, UIndy remained in control with Griffin winning in 1:01.74 and Rossillo taking the men's event in 50.74.
Good won her second event of the day with a time of 5:16.16 in the 500 free, while Mikaelsson won the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.74. Demirtas continued his run of success in the breast by winning for the men in 57.01 to round out the victories for the Greyhounds.
UIndy will now prepare for its last time in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships as in 2014 the Greyhounds will move into the Great Lakes Valley Conference as it sponsors swimming and diving for the first time. the 2013 GLIAC Championships are Feb. 6-9 in Canton, Ohio.
