BAYAMON, P.R. – In its final game of the calendar year, the No. 21 UIndy men's basketball team (8-0) notched an 84-75 come-back win at Puerto Rico-Bayamon Wednesday evening.  The Vaqueros (1-10) led by as much as 13 late in the first half, but the Greyhounds outscored the home team by 22 points in the game's final 23 minutes.

Junior Joe Lawson proved too much for the Vaqueros to handle, as the 6-7 Indianapolis native compiled a game-high 21 points on 7-for-12 shooting.  He also added eight rebounds, three steals and hit all seven free throw attempts.

UPR-Bayamon, an NCAA Division II program, jumped out to an early 17-8 lead, but nine straight points from the Hounds knotted the game at 17 apiece.  The rally was capped by an and-one play from Lawson, who delivered an emphatic two-handed jam and sank the ensuing free throw.

The Vaqueros surged again, this time building a 41-28 cushion with 3:30 left.  But the undeterred Greyhounds answered with a flurry, finishing the first half on a 13-2 run that trimmed the lead to a deuce at the break.

UIndy's momentum carried over into the second half as the Hounds scored the first seven points of the final period to take control.

The Greyhounds continued to apply pressure and slowly extend the lead.  One sequence saw sophomore Kendall Vieke drain two 3-pointers and a pair of free throws in three consecutive possessions.   The result was a 63-50 score with 11 minutes to go.

UIndy later pushed the margin to a game-high 15 points before holding on for the nine-point win.

Senior Leland Brown finished with 15 points and five boards, senior Reece Cheatham added 13 points and three assists, while senior Jared Grady chipped in 11 points off the bench.

As a team, the Hounds out-rebounded the Vaqueros 36-24 while out-scoring them 19-8 in second-chance points.

UIndy wraps up the 2013 calendar year with a spotless 8-0 mark, marking just the eighth time in program history the Greyhounds won each of their first eight contests.  The Hounds get back at it Jan. 3, opening Great Lakes Valley Conference play with an inter-division meeting at Missouri S&T starting at 8:30 p.m. ET.
