Box Score
INDIANAPOLIS – In its final home game of the calendar year, the UIndy men's basketball team remained undefeated with a staggering
109-39 rout of visiting IU Northwest Saturday afternoon. Senior
Leland Brown scored 20 points to lead seven Greyhounds in double figures and push the team's record to a perfect 6-0.
UIndy shot 39-for-67 (.582) from the field while hitting 11 shots from behind the arc for the second consecutive game. Individually, a number of Greyhounds set career highs on the afternoon, including 12 points and four 3-pointers by
Kendall Vieke, eight assists from
Reece Cheatham and four steals by
Brennan McElroy.
Â
Playing their second game in as many days and third in the last four, the RedHawks (3-8) managed just 32-percent shooting while turning the ball over 26 times, both season worsts for a Greyhound opponent.
Â
Meanwhile, Northwest's 39 points marked the lowest for a UIndy adversary since Temple Baptist mustered just 38 on Dec. 30, 2008.
Â
The Hounds scored the game's first 26 points while nearly 10 minutes ticked off the clock before the RedHawks could muster any offense. IUN freshman Quentin Palmer hit a pair of free throws with 10:18 on the clock to finally break the seal, but not before the Northwest missed eight shots and amassed 12 turnovers before getting on the scoreboard.
Â
UIndy went on to earn a 50-14 cushion at the break as Brown's first-half point total alone matched that of the RedHawks.
Â
IUN shot a respectable 37 percent from the floor in the second half only to see UIndy connect on a gaudy 67 percent of its shot attempts over that span. Senior
Jared Grady led all scorers with 11 points in the final 20 minutes.
Â
One road trip remains before UIndy begins conference play next month. The Hounds will leave their winter coats behind when they travel to Puerto Rico to face fellow Division-II schools P.R.-Bayamon and P.R. Rio Piedras Dec. 17 and 18, respectively.
Â
Â
Notes:  The last time seven Hounds scored 10 or more points was Nov. 27, 2010 in a 103-79 win against Wilberforce … UIndy executed back-to-back alley-oop plays in the second half, both featuring a Cheatham pass and a McElroy dunk.
