Wellmann's hat trick leads Hounds over SJC, 4-1

RENNSELAER, IN- Behind a hat trick from Daniel Wellmann, the Greyhound men's soccer team closed out the 2014 regular season with a 4-1 win at Saint Joseph's.

Wellman notched the first UIndy (9-5-3; 9-5-1 GLVC) goal in the 19th minute, taking a cross through the front of the box from Julian Shamsaie and sending it into the bottom far corner of the goal. The teams went into the halftime with UIndy holding the 1-0 lead.

After the break, Wellmann would put away two more scores, the first just before the 56-minute mark. The German headed home a ball served into the box by Zak Mitiche to push UIndy ahead 2-0. He then converted on a free kick opportunity at 67:00 from about 20 yards, bending the ball into the upper right of the frame for the 3-0 Greyhound lead.

Patrick O'Brien scored the final UIndy goal, making good on a penalty kick at the 72:27. The Pumas would tally their lone score on a PK as well, just after the 80-minute mark.

UIndy outshot the host Pumas 18-5, with Wellmann's five shots leading the Hounds. Andrew Verhonik took the win in goal, making a pair of saves in just more than 80 minutes in net before giving way to Chris Jones.

The Greyhounds now await the release of the 2014 GLVC Tournament Championship bracket to see where their first-round tournament match will be Sunday.
