Greyhounds sprint past Prairie Stars in 3-0 win

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy volleyball team rebounded from Friday night's 3-2 loss to McKendree with a 3-0 (25-8, 25-12, 25-17) rout over visiting Illinois Springfield (3-10, 1-8 GLVC) Saturday afternoon in the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center.

The Greyhounds (8-6, 7-2 GLVC) came out on fire, hitting a blistering .525 as a team in the opening set with 15 kills and one error on 25 swings.

The trend continued as UIndy hit .441 and .243 in the following two sets to finish with a .396 attack percentage, good for a season high.

Senior Meghan Binkerd helped facilitate the Greyhound offense with 39 assists, and spread the ball around enough to allow five separate Hounds to finish with double-digit attacks. Four of those five finished above .300 hitting, led by Becca Lira's (10-2-16) and Julia Watkins' (6-0-12) .500 percentages.

Hailey Brown led the Hounds with 13 kills, followed by Lira (10), Hannah Bauer (7), Lynsey Hazelwood (7) and Watkins (6).

UIndy also performed well defensively, nearly doubling the Prairie Stars in digs (58 to 30). Kimberly Trojan paced the Hounds with 14 digs, Arielle Knafel finished with 12 and Hazelwood tallied 11.

The Greyhounds hit the road next weekend to face Wisconsin-Parkside and Lewis.
