Greyhounds rally past Screaming Eagles, 3-1

INDIANAPOLIS – UIndy dropped Southern Indiana 3-1 (25-15, 21-25, 25-23, 25-19) Friday night to improve to 17-9 overall and 14-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, good for the top spot in the East division.

After leading UIndy in Sunday's sweep over then-23rd-ranked Truman State, freshman Kacee Salyers set the tone in the opening set. She registered 5 kills and hit .500 (5-0-10), helping the Greyhounds hit a sharp .387 (16-4-31) and win the first set 25-15.

The script flipped in the second set, as the Screaming Eagles (18-10, 8-9 GLVC) hit .241 to UIndy's .061, led by Fawn Ryan's 7 kills. They evened the match score with a 25-21 victory.

Southern Indiana appeared ready to take a match lead in the third set, jumping out to a 17-11 advantage. But the Greyhounds responded with a momentum-shifting 14-4 run to close out the set and take a 2-1 edge after three.

UIndy parlayed the emphatic third set finish into the fourth and closed the door, 25-19, sealing the victory. The Hounds were led by Arielle Knafel's 4 kills and helped by the Eagles' 15 total errors.

Knafel (15 kills-15 digs), Hailey Brown (10-16) and Meghan Binkerd (40 assists-13 digs) each recorded a double-double, and Salyers finished the night with 10 kills.

UIndy fared better than USI defensively, totaling 67 digs to the Eagles' 52. The Hounds also had 6 service aces, 6 team blocks and 48 team assists. Becca Lira led the team with 6 block assists in the win.

The Greyhounds close out the regular season Saturday against Bellarmine at 3 p.m. ET in the Ruth Lilly Center. Binkerd, Knafel, Julia Watkins and Kimberly Trojan will be honored as part of the Senior Day ceremonies.
