INDIANAPOLIS – Senior
Tyrae Robinson scored a career-high 34 points in a losing effort Saturday night as the No. 4 UIndy men's basketball team (22-3, 14-3 GLVC) fell to visiting Bellarmine,
96-81. The Knights (20-5, 12-5) knocked down 14 of 21 (.667) shots from behind the arc to snap the Greyhounds' 10-game winning streak.
Â
After building a 10-point lead at halftime, Bellarmine nailed 7 of 10 from downtown in the second half, making it difficult for the Hounds to string together any significant scoring runs. The Knights went on to score 51 points after the break and shoot 60 percent from the field for the night. Their 14 triples were the most by a UIndy opponent since Quincy hit 16 in January of 2009.
Â
Meanwhile, Robinson's scoring output was the highest by a Greyhound this season and the most since UIndy All-American Darius Adams scored 36 versus Northern Kentucky on Feb. 17, 2011.
Â
Robinson sank 17 of 19 (.895) free throw attempts, falling one make shy of the school's single-game record. His relentless dribble penetration helped the Greyhounds earn 41 trips to the charity stripe for the second straight game.
Â
Two other Hounds reached double figures as
Joe Lawson scored 16 points as
Reece Cheatham added 10.
Â
Before the game, UIndy recognized its five seniors –
Leland Brown, Cheatham,
Joe Daniels,
Jared Grady and Robinson. The quintet has helped UIndy to an 81-30 (.730) record since 2010, matching the program record for most victories in a four-year period.
In addition, this year's seniors are also on the verge of leading UIndy to four consecutive NCAA Tournament berths for the first time in program history.
Â
The regular season wraps up Thursday when the Hounds travel to in-state Saint Joseph's. Tip time from Rensselaer is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET.
