Four earn All-American finishes at 2014 NCAA Wrestling Championships

CLEVELAND-
The four UIndy senior national qualifiers all earned All-American honors in their final seasons as Greyhounds. Alex Johns, Cameryn Brady, Jeff Weiss and Evan Wooding all placed in the top eight of their weight classes on day two of the 2014 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships at Cleveland's Public Auditorium Saturday.

As a team, UIndy finished eighth with 46.0 total team points. The eight-spot marks the highest NCAA Division II finish by the Greyhounds, who bested their 10th place ranking from 2006. As an NAIA program in 1961, UIndy took seventh at the national tournament. Notre Dame (Ohio) won the 2014 title, amassing 99.5 total points.

Johns (30-5), who closed out his career as a two-time All-American and a three-time National Qualifier for the Greyhounds, fell to Marco Tamayo in the consolation third round 5-4 to open the day, but closed out the day and his career with a 10-1 major decision in the seventh place bout over Garrett Evans of Ouachita Baptist. The Evansville, Ind. native closes out his career with 115 wins, good for a tie for fifth all-time in the UIndy record books. He took fifth a season ago at the national meet.

Brady (36-4) went 2-1 on the second day of the event, taking a 9-1 major decision over McKendree's Kyle Williams to open the day, but following up with a loss 4-0 to Jay Hildreth of St. Cloud State to take a spot in the fifth/sixth match. The Lowell, Ind. native took sixth with a 3-1 loss to Jay Martinez of Colorado Mesa, making him a two-time All-American as a Greyhound after his seventh place finish a year ago.

Weiss (33-7) took a loss in his first bout of the day, falling to Notre Dame's Eric Burgey 3-2 in the 165 semifinal. He then pinned Maryville's Dimitri Willis in 5:14 in the consolation semifinals, and bested Nick Haferkamp of McKendree in the third place match 3-2. The Troy, Ind. native closed out his career with 104 total wins, putting him in a tie for the 10th-most in UIndy history.

Wooding (31-10) closed out his career as a two-time National Qualifier and an All-American as a senior. The Moorsville, Ind. native went 2-1 on the day, starting his day with a pin of Newberry's Matt Wade in 7:16. he then fell in overtime to Maryville's Donnell Walker in the consolation semifinals, but rebounded with an 8-7 win over St. Cloud State's Austin Goergen in the fifth place match. Wooding also closed out his four years in a Greyhound singlet with 104 total wins, tied with Weiss for 10th-most in UIndy history.

The four All-Americans ties the most-ever by a UIndy program.
