INDIANAPOLIS- In a rematch of last season's Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament championship match, Rockhurst defeated UIndy men's soccer 1-0 Sunday at Key Stadium.
The teams fought through more than 107 minutes of scoreless soccer before the match was decided. Both teams had numerous goal-scoring chances, with one of the Greyhounds' best coming with about 26 minutes to play in regulation.
Ngwese Ebangwese sent a header towards the upper right corner of the frame, but the Rockhurst keeper made a diving play on the ball to preserve the shutout.
The Hawks (2-1-0; 2-0-0 GLVC) notched the game winner at the 107:23 mark, on a shot from Kaleb Jackson off of a ball headed his way from Adam Michel. Â
UIndy (0-2-2; 0-1-1 GLVC) out-shot the visiting Hawks 24-11 in the match, and also took 14 corner kicks to Rockhurst's three. Ebangwese's six shots led the UIndy offense, while
Daniel Wellmann fired off four shots in the match.
Andrew Verhonik took the loss, making three saves on the day.
The Greyhounds head to Drury and Missouri S&T for their first GLVC road trip of the season. First kick versus the Panthers Friday night is slated for 8:30 p.m. EST.
