SOMERS, Wis. – The UIndy women's basketball squad dropped a 75-66 decision in overtime Thursday night at Wisconsin-Parkside.
Senior
Kelly Walter sank a three-pointer in the closing seconds of regulation to wipe out a 12-point second-half deficit and force the extra period, but the Rangers (15-4, 8-2 GLVC) outscored UIndy 17-8 to seal their eighth consecutive victory.
Parkside hit 13 free throws in the final five minutes, going 13-for-14 after netting only 12 of 23 during regulation.
UIndy could not get much going on the offensive end during the first half, shooting 30 percent (9-30) and scoring just 20 points – tied for the fewest points at half this season.
Despite the stagnant offensive performance, UIndy stayed within striking distance of Parkside for the full 20 minutes by holding their counterparts to just over 40 percent shooting (11-27), including 2-for-12 from three-point range. The host Rangers sank six of their first nine shots, but cooled off to go 5-for-18 for the remainder of the half, and led just 27-20 going into the locker rooms.
Several times in the second period the Greyhounds narrowed it to a two possession game, but the Rangers had an answer for almost every UIndy run.
After a 10-1 Parkside run minutes into the half, the Rangers held their largest lead of the day at 37-25.
The final Greyhound push made it 53-50 on a pair of
Devin Ferguson free throws with 3:24 left, and the true freshman followed with a steal that led to a game-tying triple from
Kelly Walter.
Parkside shortly took a 58-55 lead after hitting three freebies, and with 17 seconds left on the clock, Walter drained her 3-point basket that sent the contest into overtime.
The Hounds shot 50 percent (13-26) in the second period, and outscored UWP 38-30.
Junior
Princess German led UIndy with 19 points, adding four rebounds and a pair of assists. Walter finished with 17 points, five boards and three assists.
Sophomore
Nicole Anderson paced the Hounds with eight rebounds, followed by
Carly Lythjohan's seven.

The road only gets tougher for the Greyhounds, who get a crack at No. 1 Lewis Saturday at 2 p.m. ET.
