Â
INDIANAPOLIS – Trailing by a goal to start the second half, the University of Indianapolis women's soccer team relied on one of their youngest player to tie their match with McKendree on Sunday afternoon.
Â
In double overtime, one of the team's veterans stepped up in a big way to preserve a 1-1 draw with the Bearcats at Key Stadium.
GAME CHANGERAfter not seeing a single shot on goal for almost 60 minutes, UIndy goalkeeper
Emma Crenshaw turned in her finest stop of the day with less than two minutes to go before the final horn to keep the game tied.
Â
McKendree's Chelsea Whittaker snuck in behind the Greyhound defense on the run and found herself one-on-one with Crenshaw in close. The Greyhound backstop would come out to challenge and stop Whittaker's shot with the left arm to keep the game even.
Â
BEYOND THE BOX SCOREUIndy got on the board less than three minutes into the second half when
Jocelyn Evans found
Sierra Singer dashing down the left side of the field. The freshman striker gathered in Evans' feed and let a shot go that found the top left corner of the net to tie the match in the 48
th minute. It was the second goal of the year for Singer and the first helper of the year for Evans.
Â
Evans nearly had the go-ahead goal in the 62
nd minute.
Michele Govern sent a ball in from the right wing that Evans got a foot on and deflected the ball into the top of the net. But at the very last second, Evans was whistled offside.
