Hounds up win streak to seven

CLERMONT, Fla. – After a day off Monday, the No. 21 UIndy softball team continued play at the NTC Spring Games with a pair of night games Tuesday.  The Greyhounds (10-4) extended their win streak to seven by downing the University of Mary, 13-7, and Wilmington (De.), 6-2.

GAME 1
The Greyhounds offense put up a season-high 13 runs on the board, as UIndy's one through four hitters combined to go 9-for-15 with 10 runs scored.

Senior Taylor Russell led the hit parade, finishing 3 for 4 with five RBIs, marking the most runs driven in by a Greyhound in nearly 25 months.

Fresh off being named GLVC Pitcher of the Week, starting pitcher Morgan Foley tossed three scoreless frames and left with a comfortable 12-0 lead.  The Marauders (10-15) rallied for seven runs against the Greyhound bullpen, however, erasing the chance of a five-inning win for both UIndy and Foley.

Instead, freshman Sam Hogan (2-0) was credited with the pitching win, as the Palatine, Ill., native allowed just one run in 2 1/3 innings.

GAME 2
Foley (8-2) earned the win in game two, pitching all seven innings while striking out 11 and walking zero.  She fanned the first six batters and eight of the first nine until the Wildcats (7-3) strung together four hits in the fourth to plate their only two runs of the night.

Natalie Lalich, Jenny Thompson and Jessie Noone each had two hits, including an RBI double from the latter in the first inning.  Junior Erika Goodwin also plated a run with a two-bagger in the second, while senior Casey Williamson added an RBI triple in the sixth.

UIndy concludes its Florida trip with two games tomorrow, starting with a meeting with Lock Haven at 11 a.m.  Live stats from the first game are scheduled to be available here.
