Hounds notch two shutouts in doubleheader sweep versus Drury

WESTFIELD, Ind. – The No. 18 UIndy softball team (13-5, 2-0 GLVC) did not allow a run in 14 innings of play Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader versus Drury 2-0 and 7-0.  Originally slated as the home opener, the twin bill was moved to the turf fields in Grand Park in nearby Westfield, Ind.

GAME 1
The Greyhounds would get all the runs they would need in the first inning.  Erika Goodwin and Sydney Russell started the game with a single and a triple, respectively, with Russell scoring on an error for good measure.

Starting pitcher Morgan Foley (9-3) took care of the rest, dealing out 19 strikeouts in a one-hit masterpiece.  Foley surrendered a second-inning single and three walks but was near perfect otherwise, striking out the side in five of seven frames.  Her K total broke her own school record for most strikeouts in a seven-inning game, coming one short of tying the Division II record.

GAME 2
Freshman Sam Hogan (4-0) continued to impress in her rookie season.  She won her fourth straight decision while notching her first collegiate shutout.  Hogan gave up just two hits without walking a single batter.

The UIndy bats delivered a six-spot in the fourth inning.  The rally was fueled by four straight hits to start the frame, including a two-run double from Katie Kelly.

Goodwin, who finished the game with three hits and two runs scored, also had two ribbies in the fourth.

The Hounds head back to Grand Park Sunday for a twin bill with Missouri S&T Sunday starting at noon ET.
