CLERMONT, Fla. – For the second consecutive day, the 21st-ranked UIndy softball team earned a pair of wins at the NTC Spring Games Sunday, held at the National Training Center Softball Complex in Clermont, Fla. The Greyhounds (8-4) shut out California (Pa.), 8-0, before topping in-region Northwood, 5-3.
Â
GAME 1Junior
Morgan Foley fired a one-hit gem in the opener, fanning a season-high 15 batters to move top 6-2 on the year. The Louisville, Ky., product scattered five walks and a third-inning single as no Vulcan base runner touched third base. She had at least two strikeouts in every inning, including striking out the side in three frames.
Offensively, junior
Cassie Reed earned her first collegiate extra-base hit with an RBI double in the second to get the Hounds in the board. She would later score on
Katie Kelly's two-sacker.
UIndy picked up single runs in the fourth and fifth before hanging a four spot in the sixth to end it. The final frame was highlighted by a two-run single from
Sydney Russell and two-run double from sister
Taylor Russell.
S. Russell finished with three hits in the game, while freshman
Jessie Noone had two hits and two runs.
Â
GAME 2With the score tied 1-1 in the fifth, the Hounds exploded for four runs to pull away from the Timberwolves (0-5). After sophomore
Katie Kelly worked a leadoff walk, seniors S. Russell and
Casey Williamson delivered back-to-back triples to power the rally. Later in the frame, Noone plated T. Russell and
Natalie Lalich with an opposite-field single.
Â
Noone also had an RBI double in the fourth; T. Russell finished with two runs, two stolen bases and a hit by pitch; and S. Russell had two walks.
Â
Senior
Amanda Ciran made the start in the circle, lasting one-plus innings. After a shaky but scoreless first, she gave up a single followed immediatley by a wild pitch and was pulled in favor of junior
Coryn Tirpak. Tirpak surrendered an RBI double later in the second but recorded nine outs without another run scoring.
Â
Foley came on in relief to start the fifth, getting the final nine outs and ultimately the win. Northwood had two in and two on in the seventh until Foley (7-2) coaxed a ground ball and a game-ending double play.

The Greyhounds get the day off tomorrow before returning to the diamond Tuesday versus the University of Mary at 5 p.m. ET.
