INDIANAPOLIS – What day is it when a doubleheader sweep, a no-hitter and a record-setting run all take a backseat among all the happenings at Baumgartner Field? MDA Day, of course. The UIndy softball team celebrated its annual philanthropic campaign by presenting the Muscular Dystrophy Association with a check for $7,515.85 in honor of Liam Ealy. Liam, nephew of Greyhound softball alum Megan (Hall) Slightom, was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy at a young age.
Â
Following a first pitch from Liam himself, the No. 10 Greyhounds handed visiting McKendree losses of 8-0 and 10-5. Game one featured a no-hitter from junior hurler
Morgan Foley, while the second game saw senior
Casey Williamson break the school record for career runs.
Â
GAME 1Three walks and an error accounted for the whole of the Bearcat base runners, as McKendree finished 0-for-16 at the plate versus Foley (22-3). The no-no was the first of the season for Foley and second of her career. The Louisville, Ky., native fanned eight batters and allowed only one runner to reach second base.
Â
Meanwhile,
Natalie Lalich and
Taylor Russell both went yard in the contest. Lalich hit a solo shot in the second inning, while Russell blasted a three-run bomb in the third.
Â
Russell also added a two-run single in the fourth. Neither Lalich nor Williamson made an out after combining to go 3-for-3 with three walks, three runs and three ribbes.
Â
GAME 2Williamson continued her hot streak with two more hits and another walk in the capper. The hometown product added to her already lengthy list of UIndy career records by crossing the plate for the 190th time in the first inning, snapping the mark formerly held by Jaime Keltz (2008-11). Williamson went on to score two more runs in the game, including one on her second-inning home run.
Â
Lalich also homered in game two, marking the second time this season she's homered in both ends of a doubleheader.Â
Erika Goodwin amassed two singles and two walks, while both
Sydney Russell and
Jessie Noone also had a pair of knocks.
Â
Junior
Coryn Tirpak (3-4) got the win in the circle, tossing six innings and allowing four runs – two earned. She struck out two and walked only one.
Â
Freshman
Sam Hogan got the final three outs for the Hounds.
Â
UIndy hosts Illinois Springfield at Baumgartner Field tomorrow. Game one of two starts at noon ET.
