WHEELING, W.V. – The 10th-ranked UIndy softball team (32-8) picked up a pair of non-conference road wins Wednesday, downing host Wheeling Jesuit by scores of 4-1 and 9-1.
Â
UIndy head coach
Melissa Frost is now 3-1 all-time versus her former team. Frost landed her first head coaching position with WJU in 2002, spending three seasons with the Cardinals before landing the head job at UIndy in 2005.
Â
GAME 1The UIndy put some early pressure on the Cardinals (13-14), hanging a run in the first inning and two in the second. An RBI single by
Taylor Russell plated sister
Sydney Russell with the first tally, while a two-run double from
Erika Goodwin and an error scored
Katie Kelly and Goodwin, respectively.
Â
Natalie Lalich capped the scoring with her eighth home run of the season – a solo shot in the fifth. Lalich finished 2 for 2 with a walk, while Goodwin joined her with two hits.
Â
The four runs of support were more than enough for starting pitcher
Morgan Foley (24-4). The UIndy ace fired a complete-game two-hitter, striking out 15 and walking only three.
Â
A leadoff homer by Morgan Stohlman in the third accounted for the Cardinals' only run.
Â
GAME 2Senior
Casey Williamson exploded for two home runs and five RBIs in the capper, powering the Hounds to a 9-1 victory in six innings. Her first homer of the day was a mammoth three-run blast to right field in the third inning. She added a two-run dinger in the sixth.
Â
T. Russell also joined the homer parade with a solo shot in the third, part of a three-hit game for the senior DP. S. Russell chipped in a two-run double in the sixth, while freshman
Jessie Noone had two hits and two runs.
Â
Junior
Coryn Tirpak took care of business in the circle, allowing just one run in a complete-game effort. She scattered six hits while striking out three and walked one.

The Greyhounds have a big weekend coming as they host the third-ranked Tritons of Missouri-St. Louis starting at noon ET Saturday. Alumni Day festivities will also be held.
