SURPRISE, Ariz.- The historical season of the 2015 UIndy men's tennis team came to its end Wednesday, with the #22 Greyhounds falling 5-0 to #4 Armstrong in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championships.
The Greyhounds (16-5) took losses in all three doubles, but were up as many as two games in two of the matches. At No. 1 doubles,
Christoph Drechsler and
Tony Kostadinov fell 9-7 to Armstrong's Damian Okrutny and Jan Porteset, while
Andrea Morlet and
Marco Razo lost an 8-1 decision to the Pirates' #13 Pablo Gor and Ignacio Hernandez.
Luke Hubert and
Fausto Cordova fell 8-6 to Luca Cerin and Otakar Lucak at No. 3.
In singles play, just No. 4 and No. 5 had to finish to decided the match, with Razo taking a 6-1, 6-4 loss to Hernandez at No. 5, followed by Morlet dropping his match 6-2, 6-2 to Porteset at No. 4 to give Armstrong the win.
UIndy closes out the 2015 season having won its first-ever NCAA Regional to make its program-first trip to the NCAA Championships.
