INDIANAPOLIS – The Greyhound men's soccer team was looking for their first three-match winning streak of the year on Sunday afternoon when they took on the red-hot Screaming Eagles of Southern Indiana.
Â
UIndy out-chanced the Screaming Eagles 13-6 on the day, but couldn't find the back of the net while USI got a goal off a set play right before the half to pick up a 1-0 win and extend their winning streak to seven.
Â
GAME CHANGER
With halftime approaching the Screaming Eagles had one last chance to generate offense before the horn when they were awarded a corner kick in the 44
th minute. Riley Belding sent a ball into the box and it found the head of Kyle Richardville, who nudged the ball just across the goal line for what would be the game-winner.
Â
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
UIndy came out buzzing the start the game, recording six shot attempts in the opening 18 minutes. After outshooting the Screaming Eagles 10-4 in the first half, the Hounds could muster just three attempts in the second half as USI's defense was able to keep the Greyhounds out wide when they had possession.
Â
Freshman
Mase Koki led UIndy with four shot attempts while
David Kurz' two shots on goal was tops on the Hounds. In goal,
Miles Palmer stopped three shots against but fell to 3-2-2 on the year.
Â
Coaches' Corner
Head coach John Higgins: "We had another game where we got off to a great start and generated some good chances, but that goal right before half sank us. At the end of the day, you have to be able to put the ball in the net and we struggled to find a rhythm after that goal went in. It doesn't get any easier from here and we need to regroup after this one to be ready for Friday night."
Â
UP NEXT
The Greyhounds head back out on the road for their next two matches, starting on Friday night when they travel to Quincy, Ill. to battle the Hawks of Quincy University. Kick-off is set for approximately 8:30 p.m.
