Jenkins ties game late, downs Hawks in OT as Hounds earn big comeback win

Final: UIndy 2 – Quincy 1
Records: UIndy 6-3-2 (4-3-2 GLVC) | Quincy 9-1-0 (7-1-0 GLVC)
Location: Legends Field – Quincy, Ill.

QUINCY, Ill. – Staring at a one-goal deficit late in regulation, the Greyhound men's soccer team battled back to tie the game late and force overtime, where they stunned Quincy University with a goal late in the extra session to earn a 2-1 win.

GAME CHANGER
After tying the game late in regulation, James Jenkins put the finishing touches on the comeback win in the 92nd minute. The freshman forward got in behind the Quincy defense and was right on the spot to head home an Evan Smith crossing feed for the game winner, his fourth goal of the year and first game-winner of his career.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
Jenkins got the Hounds back to even in the 89th minute with a big assist going to senior captain Casey Zimmerman. The senior midfielder played a long ball into the box there Jenkins corralled it and tucked a shot into the net from a tight angle to tie the match. It was Jenkins' third goal of the year and Zimmerman's first point of the year.

Quincy got the opening marker with less than two minutes to go in the first half when Jordan Stephens put one past the out-stretched fingers of Miles Palmer in the 44th minute, netting his third goal of the year. Stephens' goal was the last time the Hawks would put a shot on goal for the rest of the night as UIndy limited the hosts to just one shot attempt the rest of the way.

Coaches' Corner
Head coach John Higgins: "We've been waiting on a performance like that from one of our strikers all year and we got the breaks we were looking for tonight. Once we got that goal late in the game, I had a really good feeling that we were going to win."

"Quincy gave us everything they had tonight and they showed why they're one of the top teams in the league year after year. Tonight was just great resilience shown by our guys to stick with our system and we got it when we needed it most. Everyone on our team contributed tonight and we have to take this momentum with us into the Truman game on Sunday."

"We really wanted to get our strikers in behind the defense all year and tonight Jenks cashed in on some great play by our midfielders to get the winner. We've thought all year that we can throw different looks at defenders and we were able to score on a back post feed and with James in behind a defender tonight. The way we won tonight, we hope it sparks our offense going down the stretch."
