Hounds, Bulldogs battle to a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon

Final: UIndy 1 – Truman 1 (2 OT)
Records: UIndy 6-3-3 (4-3-3 GLVC) | Truman 5-5-2 (3-5-2 GLVC)
Location: Truman Soccer Complex – Kirksville, Mo.

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Greyhound men's soccer team wrapped up their weekend road swing on Sunday afternoon against the Truman State Bulldogs.

UIndy got the opening marker less than six minutes into the match and held the lead for the next 70 minutes. But the Hounds conceded the tying goal on a set play late in regulation, eventually settling for a 1-1 draw with Truman.

GAME CHANGER
Benjamin Sierra wasted little time putting the Greyhounds out in front, scoring in the sixth minute. Evan Smith sent a ball into the box where Santiago, Chile-native Sierra went feet first into the box and re-directed the ball into the net.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
Sierra has been the Greyhounds' most efficient goal scorer this year, scoring three goals on just four shots on goal. The sophomore striker is currently tied for the team lead in scoring with eight points (3G, 2A) on the year.

Truman drew even on a set play in the 75th minute when Matt Yankowitz got a hold of a loose ball off a corner kick and drove it home for the tying marker. The goal ended up being the final shot on goal of the day for the Bulldogs.

UIndy had a chance to steal the game right before the final horn sounded in double overtime. The Hounds had a corner kick in Truman's end that Noah Zorniger got a head on looking to score. But the junior center back was turned aside by Truman goalkeeper Zac Suazo with 10 seconds left in the match.

Shots were 12-7 in favor of the Hounds with UIndy putting four shots on goal to three for the Bulldogs. Sierra and Javier Steinwascher both had three shot attempts to lead the Greyhounds.

COACHES' CORNER
Head coach John Higgins: "Right after we scored, we had another chance to add another and we did and that would have been huge. Coming off a big win that we had on Friday, we missed a few chances and it ended up catching up to us later."

"Going undefeated on the road this weekend is a result we're absolutely thrilled to take. The guys played hard and we managed the game well. Today was just a case of not being able to get some more cushion with another goal and it ended up biting us when they scored on a set play."

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds will be back home for their next two contests, the first coming up on Friday night against the Tritons of Missouri-St. Louis. Kickoff from Key Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m.
