Â
GAME CHANGER
The Tritons struck for the game-winner less than a minute into the second half on a broken play. UMSL lined up for a throw in and the ball bounced off a couple players before finding the right foot of Nick Werner, who made no mistake in potting the eventual game-winner.
Â
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
-UIndy opened up the scoring in the 17
th minute when
James Jenkins came from out of nowhere to head home his fifth tally of the year.
Noah Zorniger played a ball into the box from 45 yards out, giving Jenkins plenty a chance to get in behind the Triton defense and head the ball into the lower right side of the box for the opening tally.
Â
-Less than six minutes later, the Tritons used a long ball of their own to generate their first goal of the match. DJ Bednar sent a ball into the UIndy zone that bounced over Zorniger's head and into the possession of Pat Ries, who beat Palmer in tight to tie the match.
Â
-UIndy appeared to re-take the lead in the 25
th minute when
Benjamin Sierra headed a ball in off a free kick. However, the play was blown offside just shortly after the ball went in the back of the net.
Â
-
Ben Rohder nearly tied things up in the 63
rd minute when he let a rising shot go in the box that UMSL goalkeeper Jack Filla just got a hand on and deflected over the crossbar. Jenkins came inches away from tying the game in the 87
th minute, but his header was turned aside by Filla on the goal line.
Â
-Shots were 21-9 in favor of the Greyhounds, with UIndy attempting 15 shots in the second half alone. Filla turned aside all eight shots he faced in the second half. The Greyhounds dominated not only on the shot clock, but in the number of corner kicks attempted as well, taking 14 to just two for UMSL.
Â
COACHES' CORNER
Head coach John Higgins: "I was disappointed with the two goals we conceded, mainly just at the times we allowed them. There's never a good time to surrender a goal but the first one came about five minutes after we went ahead and the second one came right out of the gate in the second half. After the second one we really responded with a great second half. We just couldn't find the back of the net."
Â
"We've got a massive game coming up on Sunday, and we need to set the tone from the opening whistle. We know we're going to play well and pass it well and defend well. We just need to do it for an entire 90 minutes against a team we're battling for a spot in the conference tournament with."

UP NEXT
