Greyhounds turn in brilliant performance in home finale, shut out Lewis

THE FINAL WHISTLE
Final: UIndy 2 – Lewis 0
Records: UIndy 7-9 (6-8 GLVC) | Lewis 8-7-1 (6-7-1 GLVC)
Location: Key Stadium - Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS – Playing in front of their home crowd for the final time in 2016, the Greyhound women's soccer team closed out the home portion of their schedule with a convincing 2-0 win over Lewis University on Senior Day.

GAME CHANGER
The winning goal came midway through the first half from the Greyhounds' most consistent offensive performer. In the 22nd minute, Stephanie Burdsall grabbed a loose ball and beat Lewis goalkeeper Jennifer Meyer from just inside the 18-yard box for her seventh goal and third game-winning tally of the year.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
-Senior Elizabeth Behrends added to the lead in the 56th minute, scoring for the first time since the season-opener. Behrends hustled to a loose ball down the left wing and let a shot go that a challenging Meyer got a piece of. But the ball rolled past the Flyers' goalkeeper and across the goal line for Behrends' third goal of the year.

-Senior Emma Crenshaw made five saves for her sixth shutout of the season. The Kansas City, Mo.-native made two critical saves in tight, denying Meg Carmody from eight yards out in the 59th minute and Angela Torrito on the door step in the 78th minute.

-Shots were 13-12 in favor of the Greyhounds, who also held an 8-6 edge in shots on goal.

-The win keeps UIndy's GLVC Tournament hopes alive as they prepare to enter the final week of the regular season. The Greyhounds are tied with Southern Indiana for ninth place in the league at 6-8 with both teams just behind Lewis and Quincy, both of whom are 6-7-1 in league play. This coming week, Lewis will play Wisconsin-Parkside, Quincy will face Truman and Southern Indiana takes on Bellarmine as the four teams battle for the final two spots in the GLVC Tournament.

HEAR IT FROM THE HOUNDS
Senior Hannah Mangus: "It was a really emotional day and we felt like we dominated from start to finish. We know we still have one more chance to play and put ourselves in a position to qualify for the conference tournament."

Senior Elizabeth Behrends: "It was awesome out there today. Hannah and I have been playing soccer together for the last 10 year and this felt like a lot of hard work that really paid off. Today made it all feel worth it. Especially being able to score a goal in my last home game."

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds head to Rensselaer, Ind. this coming Wednesday (Oct. 26) for the final game of the regular season against Saint Joseph's. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. eastern time.
