INDIANAPOLIS – Facing a Division I opponent for the second time in as many matches, the UIndy men's tennis team came away with a 4-3 victory against cross-town foe Butler Thursday evening.

The Greyhounds (1-1) avenged a 2-7 loss to the Bulldogs (2-5) a season ago in the UIndy Tennis Center, with Saturday's difference coming in the crucial first point in D-I format doubles action.

Sophomore Christoph Drechsler and freshman Magnus Mueller were on the board first, defeating BU's all-freshman duo of Spencer Lang and Adrian Mag 6-3 in No. 2 doubles.

The Bulldogs answered with a No. 1 doubles win, as the tandem of Ari Gerstein and Alex Woldmoe defeated UIndy's Arklon Huertas del Pino and Andrea Morlet, 6-3.

With the lone doubles point on the line, senior Luke Hubert and junior Marco Razo delivered a 6-4 win over BU's Mason Dragos and Mikheil Khmiadashvili in No. 3 doubles.

Down one point heading into singles action, the home squad tied the match at 1-1 with a No. 4 win from Lang over Mueller, 7-5, 6-2.

Shortly after, it appeared Butler might take its first lead as Dragos won the first set in the top singles slot over Huertas del Pino. But the UIndy junior rallied, ultimately winning 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, improving to 11-2 overall in singles action for the season.

Hubert followed with a 6-3, 7-6 decision over Gerstein in No. 3 singles, moving to 2-0 in dual matches while giving UIndy a 3-1 match lead.

Butler responded with Khmiadashvili's narrow 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 win over Drechsler to pull within one.

But with a 3-2 advantage, Razo sealed the winning point behind a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Woldmoe in No. 5 singles.

The Bulldogs' Mag then defeated Morlet in No. 6, 6-4, 6-4, officially making it 4-3.

The Greyhounds – ranked 22nd in Division II – defeated a D-I opponent for the third year in a row, after securing wins over both Eastern Illinois (Feb. 3, 2015) and IUPUI (Feb. 9, 2014) each of the past two seasons.

UIndy has a short respite before facing its third Division I opponent of the season Saturday, making the short trip to meet IUPUI at 3:30 p.m. at the West Indy Racquet Club.
