RICHMOND, Ky. – Just 24 hours after opening the season with a win over IUPUI, the Greyhounds made the trip to Richmond to face another Division I opponent in the Ohio Valley's Eastern Kentucky (2-2). Indianapolis (1-1) fell short in their quest for a weekend sweep, falling to EKU, 5-2.
Freshman
Hanna Volikova continued to impress, once again earning a straight set (7-5, 6-2) win in the No. 1 singles position over Laura Escamilla. She and sophomore
Florence Renard also played the No. 1 doubles spot, dropping their match to Escamilla and Racquel Montalvo, 6-3.
The Hounds have also found success in the No. 4 singles slot, with senior
Macey Speer winning her second straight match over Marina Hernanz (6-2, 2-6, 6-3).
Despite not gathering the point available in doubles, seniors
Allie Smith and
Macey Speer earned their first win of the season at No. 2 doubles with a tough 7-5 defeat of Corentine Bodin and Hernanz.
Renard fell just short in consecutive sets at the No. 2 singles position, falling (6-4, 6-4) to Bodin.
Next up for the Hounds is another date with a familiar Division I program in Butler (0-5). Indianapolis will make the short drive to the north side of town on Friday for a 4 p.m. start.
