Softball extends season-opening win streak to 11

CLERMONT, Fla. – The second-ranked UIndy softball team remained undefeated with two more wins at the PFX Spring Games Friday. Off to their best start in 26 years, the Greyhounds (11-0) earned a 4-2 victory against Notre Dame College, followed by a 1-0 win versus Seton Hill.

UIndy 4, Notre Dame 2
The Greyhounds jumped out to the early lead, scoring all four of their runs in the top of the first inning. UIndy batted around in the frame, chasing NDC starter Alexis Brooke before she could record the second out. Clean-up hitter Natalie Lalich plated a pair of Hounds with a single to center field, while freshman Emma Varsbergs continued her hot hitting with an RBI double to right.

The Falcons (3-8) chipped away to single runs in the third and sixth inning but would get no closer as UIndy's All-America pitcher, Morgan Foley, moved to 8-0 on the year with a 12-strikeout, four-hit complete game.

UIndy 1, Seton Hill 0
Senior Miranda Tamayo (3-0)  pitched her second straight shutout, besting the Griffins (3-7) in a 1-0 pitchers' duel. The Huntington Beach, Calif., native allowed just one hit – a fourth-inning single – while striking out six and walking three.

The Hounds pushed across the game's lone run in the third. With two down and nobody on, junior Katie Kelly sparked a rally with a single and a stolen base. Erika Goodwin followed with a walk to keep the inning alive for Jessie Noone, whose ensuing base hit drove in Kelly with what turned out to be the game-winning run.

Kelly, Goodwin and Noone each finished with two singles apiece. Though Lalich's 10-game hitting streak came to an end, Varsberg extended hers to nine with a fourth-inning double.

The Greyhounds have one more day of action in Florida, facing Wheeling Jesuit and in-region Findlay Saturday at 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., respectively.
