Hounds dominate on shot clock but close out road trip with draw against Miners

Final: UIndy 0 – Missouri S&T 0 (2OT)
Records: UIndy 2-1-1 (0-1-1 GLVC) | Missouri S&T 1-0-2 (0-0-1 GLVC)
Location: Allgood-Bailey Stadium – Rolla, Mo.

ROLLA, Mo. – The Greyhound men's soccer team turned in a dominating performance on the offensive side of the ball, launching an eye-popping 28 shots in their match with Missouri S&T on Sunday afternoon.

But for the second straight game, the Hounds weren't able to find the back of the net as UIndy battled Missouri S&T to a scoreless draw in the final leg of their season-opening four-game road swing.

GAME CHANGER
Late in regulation, the Miners had three chances in a 40-second span to pot the go-ahead goal. Felipe Andrade had two consecutive shots in tight and Trey Haman added another, but all three chances were turned aside by sophomore goalkeeper Miles Palmer, who was brilliant in his first career start in goal.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
London, England-native Palmer was tested seven times in the match, turning back each one of the Miners' opportunities to record the Greyhounds' first clean sheet of the year. Palmer made his Greyhound debut on Friday night, playing 24 minutes against Drury.

The Greyhounds had a golden opportunity to take the lead early in the 58th minute when Josh Ling was hauled down in the 18-yard box and awarded a penalty kick. Ling tried to stick the ball in the lower left side of the net, but was met by S&T keeper Aaron Hohenstein, who made one of his 11 saves on the play.

Shots were 20-6 in favor of the Greyhounds in the final 65 minutes of the game and 28-12 overall. Jake Meyer and Javier Steinwascher topped the Greyhounds with six shot attempts and Ben Rohder added five shots of his own. Meyer led all players with three shots on target.

COACHES' CORNER
Head Coach John Higgins: "I thought we were excellent today and we did everything we needed to do to win the game. We were a little unlucky hitting a few posts on the day and missing the penalty kick. You have to give Missouri S&T's goalkeeper a ton of credit too because he was sensational in goal today."

"Miles played excellent and really earned his clean sheet today. He made two brilliant saves late to keep the game scoreless. Anytime we needed to lean on him today, he was there to make a big save."

"The stats will show that we didn't score a goal, but that's not a reflection on how we played this weekend. There's nothing for us to hang our heads about and we told the guys that. We were executing set plays, our passing was on all weekend and we played our system about as well. And the biggest thing is that we never panicked or got away from playing our system."

"It was a tough first four games on paper and to walk away with a 2-1-1 record is huge. We have so many positives to take out of this weekend heading into our first home games. To see how far along the guys have come over the first two weeks of the regular season is really encouraging.

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds will open up their home schedule this coming Friday night when they take on William Jewell College under the lights at Key Stadium. Kick off is set for approximately 7:30 p.m.
