Greyhounds blanked by Cardinals in final non-conference tune-up

Final: UIndy 0 – Saginaw Valley State 2
Records: UIndy 1-1-0 | Saginaw Valley 3-0-0
Location: Braddock Field – Saginaw, Mich.

SAGINAW, Mich. – Just a few days after a record-shattering scoring performance in their season opener, the Greyhound women's soccer team looked to move to 2-0 for the first time since 2011 when they took on Saginaw Valley State on Tuesday afternoon.

The two teams battled through a scoreless first half before Saginaw Valley struck for a pair of tallies in the first 15 minutes of the second half to pick up a 2-0 win, dropping UIndy to 1-1 on the year.

GAME CHANGER
Saginaw Valley's Ashley Henderson potted both goals on the afternoon, scoring the game winner just 3:22 into the second half off a feed from Jennifer Muanamputu. Henderson added an insurance tally in the 59th minute, heading home a corner kick for her third goal of the year.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
Saginaw Valley doubled up the Greyhounds in total shot attempts, firing 16 shots to UIndy's eight. Senior goalkeeper Emma Crenshaw made three saves as the Cardinals held a 5-0 edge in shots on target.

Sophomores Sierra Singer and Stephanie Burdsall, as well as freshman Carah Kreimer all led the Greyhounds with two shots on the day. Amanda Meyer and Hannah Mangus finished with one shot each.

The Greyhounds managed just a pair of corner kicks on the day, one of which produced the team's best scoring chance in the 86th minute when Alyssa Baker sent a ball into the box that Mangus got a head on but sent just wide.

COACHES' CORNER
Head Coach Holly Cox: "We didn't have the same kind of fire we had the other day and that was the biggest reason we wound up with the result we got today. After the game, we told our team we need to be more consistent from game-to-game if we want to achieve some of our goals as a team this year."

"We created a few opportunities when we had possession, but full credit to Saginaw for defending well and preventing any big chances from developing."

"We've shown that we can play when we show up. When you don't do the little things, you get punished. So we need to re-emphasize the rest of the week that we need to be prepared to work all week and during the game. We think that we have a team that can give anyone in the conference a game, but it's on the kids to show up and get the results that we all want."

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds open up GLVC play on Friday night, heading to Springfield, Mo. to take on the Panthers of Drury University. Kick-off is set for 6:00 p.m. eastern time.
