LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The UIndy swimming and diving teams returned to action after their recent training trip, taking on a pair of GLVC opponents in a double dual Friday night. The Greyhound women swept past host Bellarmine and William Jewell, with the UIndy men also topping the Knights but falling to Jewell.
Â
"I think we did a good job of racing when we were tired," said UIndy assistant coach
Ashley Steenvoorden. "Across the board, we had things to be proud of, and things we can still improve on as we start to prepare for our conference meet in a few weeks."
Â
UIndy kicked things off with wins in both the men's and women's 400 medley relays. From there, the Hounds combined for 11 events wins, including two from
Athina Konstantinidi. The freshman from Athens, Greece, who also contributed on the aforementioned medley relay, took the 400 IM (4:36.07) and the 100 breast (1:06.04).
Â
Newcomer
Guilherme Zavaneli also earned a pair of individual wins. After anchoring the 400 medley relay, the Brazilian won both the 200 (1:39.14) and 500 free (4:36.30).
Â
The Hounds went 1-2 in the women's 500 free, with freshman
Danielle Wood (5:14.69) touching first in front of teammate
Mary Niklarz. The latter was coming off a win in the 200 free (1:58.49) earlier in the meet.
Â
Fellow Cypriots
Sotia Neophytou and
Ante Lucev won their respective 100 butterfly races, sophomore
Rodrigo Codo Berti earned the men's 100 back victory, while junior sprinter
Malvina Shoukri won the women's 50.
Â
